Programs

4-Kids Child Care Learning Centers offers a variety of full-time and part-time programs for infants through adolescents. Each program recognizes and builds on your child’s developmental abilities and accomplishments and provides diverse learning opportunities throughout the day.

Infants I

crib babyAges: 6 weeks to 12 months
Caregiver/Child ratio: 1 to 4

We know that our Infant Program is an extension of your baby’s family and our goal is to ensure that both parents and child feel secure. Stable and reliable caregivers to the group of children provide the continuity that helps them develop a sense of trust and encourages bonding. The Infants Program is designed to foster your baby’s awareness and natural curiosity about the world around him or her. We support each individual baby as he or she learns to roll over, sit up, crawl, and pull himself/herself up to a standing position and then to walk. Caregivers work closely with your infant when he/she is ready to try solid foods, be weaned from the bottle and participate in self-feeding. Caregivers provide daily activities including singing, reading stories, sensory projects, block play, walks and other stimulating activities. Babies, who have begun to scoot, crawl or walk move freely about the room, exploring toys independently. Daily sheets enhance close communication between you and your child’s caregiver, so you’ll know how and when your baby ate, napped and how their day went.
Transition to the Infant II room begins when your child shows signs of freely moving about the room and self-confidence in new surroundings. This generally begins around 11 months of age.

Infant IIkids play

Ages: 10 to 24 months
Caregiver/Child ratio: 1 to 4

In the Infant II Room, toddlers begin to focus on developing independent skills such as learning to use a sippy cup, eating using a plate and a spoon and using general table manners. Children in this program begin to explore their environment more freely. Caregivers put toys away where they belong when the children are done playing with them to help establish the concept of object permanence. Activities in Infant II include coloring with crayons and markers, hands-on sensory activities such as finger painting and water play, as well as learning songs, reading stories and working on speech. At this age, children begin to establish relationships with each other and caregivers. Daily sheets provide feedback each day on naps, eating, diapers, temperament, etc.
Transition: Transition to the Big Village Preschool begins when your child is able to feed himself or herself, uses a sippy cup, participates willingly in classroom activities, and is able to comprehend some simple directions and naps on a cot.

Ages: 20 to 36 months
Caregiver/Child ratio: 1 to 5

In the Big Village Preschool, a primary focus is on self-help skills such as putting on shoes and clothes and choosing activities. Children participate in small group activities, beginning with parallel play and gradually moving towards more interactive types of play. We guide each child through the transition from “mine” to “ours” and to consider others as part of a caring and sharing philosophy. Teachers introduce learning activities including recognizing colors, shapes, letters of the alphabet and the numbers 1 through 10. Speech enrichment focuses on constructing sentences and broadening vocabulary. Potty training begins at this stage. Daily sheets help parents know about the day’s activities and the eating, napping and potty habits of their children.
Transition: Transition to the Space Room Preschool requires that the child be completely potty trained, be using complete sentences and be capable of sharing.

Ages: 3 / 4 years old
Caregiver/Child ratio: 1 to 8

In the Space Room, your child’s day will be filled with many wonderful learning and fun experiences, through a balance of structure and choice, teacher-directed and self-directed activities, and group and individual exploration. Not only does it provide children with an opportunity for social interaction, it offers to the children to learn about the world around them. We not only help get your child ready for school, we help them get ready for life with self-help skills such as putting on shoes and coats, cutting their own meat, spreading butter on bread, pouring their own juice or milk … and much more. Within the classroom, various learning centers invite your child to explore and imagine while developing school readiness skills. Learning centers include Language, Reading Readiness, Circle Time, Creativity, Art, Dramatic Play and Blocks. Mornings usually focus on learning and enrichment activities. Afternoons are more open-ended, with tables of different activities. Daily sheets keep parents up to date on a daily basis regarding our many activities.

4 - 5  Kindergarten

Ages: 4-6 years old
Teacher/Child ratio: 1 to 10

Our all-day kindergarten enhancement program is coordinated with the District 46 public school system and often enables children whose birthdays miss the cut-off for kindergarten in the public school but who are developmentally ready to start school. The program develops the academic skills required for school as well as strong social and emotional skills for the future. We emphasize personal autonomy, self-initiative, self-direction and personal responsibility. On a half-day basis, the program provides enrichment for children who attend half-day kindergarten at one of the local public schools, providing them with supplemental exposure to writing and arithmetic (as well as all of our other great, stimulating, fun activities) beyond what can be covered in the public school half-day programs.
